| Fiber Splint Technique | ![]() |
| Fiber-Splint ML, is a multiple layer fiberglass strip
for strengthening dental resins. It is used for the following indications: - Splinting loose anterior teeth caused by periodontitis or trauma. - Re-implantation of extracted or totally luxated anterior teeth to act a long-term temporary bridge. - Reinforcing temporary crowns and bridges fabricated in the mouth or laboratory. - Reinforcing acrylic denture repairs. |

Take an impression using Fiber-Plast in a non-perforated tray. | |

|
|
Anesthetize and use a water-proof felt-tip pen to mark the tooth at the gingival margin. Extract the tooth and tend the wound using standard procedures. |

Reduce the root, seal the root canal, remove old fillings. | ||
|
|
Place a rubber dam. | ||

Clean all involved teeth with non-fluoride polishing paste. | ||

Etch the oral and interdental surfaces of the extracted tooth and adjacent teeth for 30-60 seconds then rinse and blow dry. | ||

Remove the impression from the tray and reduce it as follows: Up to the distal aspect of the teeth being splinted, facially to within 1 mm of the incisal edge and orally to the cementoenamel junction. |

The teeth should be secured in place temporarily by placing a small drop of Fiber-Bond in each of the interdental spaces. Cure the Fiber-Bond. | |

The impression is then reduced to the incisal edge
to allow it to be re-positioned easily from the oral aspect. The interdental septae should be reduced slightly. |

Cut the Fiber-Splint ML strips to length using a periodontal probe to obtain the correct length, and saturate them with Fiber-Bond on a glass plate. |

Coat the oral and interdental surface with Fiber-Bond, place the Fiber-Splint ML strip into position from the oral aspect and adapt it using the Fiber-Plast impression by exerting light pressure. |

Cure the splint through the impression. Should the splint be exposed to the particularly high load, 2 or more layers of Fiber-Splint ML can be applied using the same technique. Any rough areas can be smoothed with composite or sealer. The splint is then trimmed and polished. Remove the rubber dam and check the occlusion | |
